Treat Yourself To a Lymphatic Drainage Facial At Home

Has your face been feeling puffy and congested? Your clogged lymph nodes may be to blame.

When I first started my wellness journey, the health of my lymphatic system was one of the first things I learned about. Realizing that I could benefit my overall body function AND get some beauty benefits at the same time got me hooked.

A lymphatic drainage facial at home is simple and easy. Something you can do every day or once a week, whatever floats your boat. No need for expensive salon appointments (although I wouldn’t blame you for scheduling one anyway!)

What Is Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is a technique used to help encourage your lymphatic system to remove toxins, decongest the body, and support your immune system.

As most of us are stagnant throughout the day, fluid may get trapped in your tissues due to lack of circulation. This causes that bloated puffy feeling we hate so much.

There are many ways for you to support your lymphatic system such as: adding more movement to your daily routine, lymphatic massage, and drinking plenty of fluids.

What Are The Benefits Of A Lymphatic Drainage Facial?

The benefits of a lymphatic drainage facial can be both aesthetic and a benefit to your overall well-being

Aesthetically, you may notice more of a glow, less fine lines, and of course decreased puffiness (hello jaw-line!).

The massage will also release muscle tension and eliminate toxins. I, personally, have noticed a great relief in my chronic jaw pain since starting a lymphatic massage before bed. It relaxes my face and allows me to relax my facial muscles a little bit more.

What Do I Need To Complete A Lymphatic Drainage Facial At Home?

You really don’t need any tools other than your hands and a high quality serum.

However, if you do want to get a little bit more fancy with your massage, here are my favorite facial tools for my lymphatic drainage routine:

Gua Sha

Ahh, the infamous gua sha. It’s renowned for a reason, I promise. This simple little tool hugs the contours of your face and feels a bit more effective (at least for me) in lymphatic drainage. I can literally feel things starting to drain in my throat when I use this vs. just my hands.

Dry Brush

Another staple in any lymphatic drainage routine. Typically these are made for the body – but they make one for your face too! Not only does it help my lymph system, but it is a great gentle exfoliator as well! I only use this tool once or twice a week since it is a bit more abrasive on the skin.

How To Perform A Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage At Home

1. Warm a quality serum in your hands and apply all over the face.

2. Use small circular motions on your collar bones, near your ears, chin, next to each nostril, and at the corners of your eyes to open up your lymph nodes.

3. Scrape downward on your neck using the side of your hand (or gua sha) 5 times on each side.

4. Using two fingers, start at your chin and massage upwards toward your ear – repeat 5 times on each side

5. Using your index finger, scrape from the side of your nose to the edge of your face along your cheekbone – repeat 5 times on each side

6. For the eye area, start in the inner corner of the eye and gently smooth out along the orbital bone and back toward the center of your eye – repeat 3 times

The Takeaway

Completing a lymphatic drainage facial at home is easy and shouldn’t take more than 2-3 minutes of your time.

They have a great benefit to both your internal and external well-being. Plus they’re just a great way to relax and unwind!

By making it a part of your daily routine, you are treating yourself to a plethora of benefits inside and out. Be consistent with it and in a month or so you should see the difference in your breathing, allergies, in the firmness of the skin and fine lines.
